Hand Picked by God

1 Corinthians 1:27- 30, NIV
“God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are NOT, to bring to nothing things that ARE, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.”

What this scripture is saying is that God chose particular kinds of people to be in the body of Christ. He chose what the world sees as foolish individuals, and called them into Christ. This glorious, unshakeable and foundational truth is telling us today that, as believers in Christ, Almighty God chose us to belong to Him, and it was not by mistake.

Consider how you came to be in Christ. Consider what endless lengths God went to over you, even before you knew Him. Consider your calling. Think about it. It will take away any boasting and give all the glory to God. Let him or her who boasts, boast in the Lord. This is the boast of assurance. Our calling and election, says the scripture, is all about God. We should gain a tremendous peace, confidence, courage, strength and love for life from that, and a sense of well-being inside that keeps us going, even on the most difficult days and in the face of any opposition.

Romans 8:33 says ‘Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect?’ Have we got it? Do we fully understand and embrace this deep foundational truth? Once we were completely controlled by sin, but God has adopted us as sons. We’re in His family and under His authority. The old life has no more authority over us. We’ve begun a new life under new management, a life in a personal relationship with the living God, through Jesus. We’ve become joint heirs with Christ and all that belongs to the Father.

When a person becomes a believer, they fully enter into the family of God. We did nothing to earn it. We did nothing to deserve it. God our great Father chose us and adopted us into His very own family. All our debts are paid, and all that unearned love and glory inherited. We should think on these things as we go through today.

Prayer: Father God, we thank You so much for choosing us to belong to You. We consecrate ourselves afresh to obey all that You have for us. May these truths touch us deeply in our spirits today. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
