We live in extraordinarily turbulent times. Times when everything is being shaken – two major wars – both with the potential to escalate out of control, intense persecutions, political upheavals, a fresh outbreak of ebola in the Congo and the rest – all happening at the same time. Watching the TV news has become, at times, an unwelcome, even frightening, experience.
In the midst of all this. what should the church be saying and doing? It is not unreasonable to be expecting our national church leaders to be using their voice to speak to church and nation. But their silence is deafening.
There is, however, one international leader who has had the courage to walk right into the mess and come out with an extraordinary book of huge significance to today’s church – Alistair Petrie. I have known and worked with Alistair for many years and when I read the manuscript I wrote to Alistair and told him, “This is truly astonishing. It’s more than a ‘must read’, it’s dynamite.”
And now, having seen a finished copy of The Remnant Awakening – Walking in the ways of the Lord, I believe it is of such importance and relevance to the church in today’s world, that I am unreservedly commending it to you. What Alistair has written, the church desperately needs to read, absorb and act upon – urgently!
Alistair’s primary objective in writing the book is to train believers in these end-times in how to walk in the ways of the Lord, and to rise up as a remnant church to be a dynamic witness for the Kingdom of God. I totally endorse these words and, in these tempestuous days, can there be anything more important than this?

Thank you so much for sharing this. Your words carry both a prophetic urgency and a fatherly encouragement that are greatly needed in these days.
Like many others, I look at the turmoil in the world and am deeply aware that the Church is being called to something far greater than merely reacting to events. The shaking of the nations is exposing what is built on sand and what is built on the Rock. In such times, books that call us back to the ways of the Lord are a precious gift, and I am grateful for your wholehearted recommendation of Alistair’s work.
As I reflected on your message, I found myself thinking about the many ordinary believers sitting in our churches every Sunday. Many are carrying deep wounds, disappointments, fears and unresolved pain. They love the Lord sincerely, yet they are often weary. Some do not have the capacity to attend lengthy training courses. Others struggle to read even a few pages of a book after the pressures of daily life.
At the same time, there are mature believers within our congregations who have received valuable training and experience in healing ministry, pastoral care and discipleship. Yet many of them lack simple opportunities to serve those who are hurting.
Perhaps one of the challenges before us is not only to awaken a remnant who walk in the ways of the Lord, but also to help churches become places where those ways are expressed through everyday relationships. Places where believers are encouraged to listen well, pray faithfully, ask wise questions and gently walk alongside those who are struggling.
Many people will never attend a healing conference, but they may respond to a caring conversation after a service. Many will never enrol in a discipleship school, but they may open their hearts to a trusted brother or sister who is willing to listen and pray.
Your recommendation of The Remnant Awakening is therefore not only a call to read, pray and reflect. It is also a call to action. As believers absorb the message of the book, perhaps church leaders and congregations can prayerfully consider what practical pathways can be created within local churches so that healing, restoration and discipleship are not confined to special events, but become part of the normal life of the Body of Christ.
What if every church intentionally created safe spaces where wounded people could receive prayer and encouragement? What if mature believers were equipped and released, under the loving oversight of church leadership, to walk alongside those seeking healing and freedom? What if the truths contained in this book were translated into simple, reproducible expressions of Kingdom life within every congregation?
In these days, the world does not only need a Church that understands the times. It needs a Church that demonstrates the heart of Jesus. A remnant people who walk in His ways, carry His compassion, and create room for His healing presence to touch broken lives.
May the Lord use this book not only to awaken His people, but also to inspire practical expressions of His love and healing within local churches everywhere.

Thanks Peter for that heads up on Alistair Petrie’s new book..I read some of the pages and am impressed to buy, as remember hearing him years ago at an Ellel function when talking about Reclaiming the Land, which left a memorable impression, and have prayed for years that the Sunday night murder in Nairn of a young banker, shot dead on his doorstep still has not been solved and left something of a need for cleansing for the Church to come together in prayerful repentance
