The Light of the World

“The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.”

Isaiah 60:19, NIV

When, in John 8:12, Jesus said, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”, He was expressing the amazing prophetic and eternal truth which Isaiah was referring to in our Scripture for today.

There will come a time for all believers in Heaven’s glory that we will no longer be dependent on the physical sun and moon for light, but we will be living in the reality of spiritual light, when the Lord Himself will be the light of eternity. When Jesus came down to Earth, He brought with Him more than a taste of Heaven – He brought Light into the darkness of a world that had turned their back on the living God and had chosen the spiritual darkness of Satan’s rebellion.

God is in the business of lighting up the darkness of our own hearts so that, when we come to Him and receive salvation it’s as if Heaven’s light fills our soul and, for the first time, we can see things as they really are.

Right at the beginning of the work of Ellel Ministries, God gave us this Scripture as an encouragement to always look to Him to be our Light, in whatever circumstances we found ourselves in. He has been so utterly faithful to His promise. His is a Light which transforms everything.

Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, that You brought Heaven’s light into the darkness of Earth. And thank You, Lord, that Your Light shines in each one of our hearts when we receive You into our lives. Help us, Lord, to always trust You and depend on You to shine Your light on the pathway that we walk on day by day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
